Job Description

Position: Safety Coordinator
Shifts: 1st shift (flexible start time 6-9am and then work for 8hrs)
Location: Wixom, MI
Pay: Starting at $24.55

The Safety Coordinator will lead and direct safety efforts for the plant. Ensure that Sonoco safety processes are kept in compliance and clearly understood by all plant employees. Ensure that all safety hazards are eliminated in a timely manner. Immediate supervisors will have primary responsibility for the safety of their employees, but the Safety Coordinator will assist and give guidance. The Safety Coordinator is responsible for the general safety of all people in the plant.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Conduct safety trainings for all plant employees
    • General trainings
    • Fire/Tornado drills
    • First responder training
    • Audiometric testing
  • Lead and enforce the Safety Hour process
  • Attend meetings and report on the plant’s key safety metrics
  • Develop safety related work instructions such as Hazardous Energy Control Plans (HECP)
  • Injury investigation and corrective action follow-up
  • Track all incidents and near-miss events
  • Research requirements for regulatory compliance
  • Facilitate the advancement of Management’s safety objectives
  • Maintain up-to-date safety rules and ensure rules are consistently enforced
  • Support R-3 safety projects
  • Complete regular trainings by government departments such as OSHA
  • Contribute to plant 5S efforts
  • Overtime required at times

We’d Love to Hear from You If:

  • Math skills to calculate percentages, and basic math (multiply, divide…)
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Able to navigate computer database systems used for corporate safety information
  • Project Management abilities to oversee and assemble resources for project completion
  • Must understand or be willing to learn within 90 days:
    • The manufacturing processes of injection molding, assembly operations, robotics, logistics
    • Fundamentals of electricity, pneumatics, hydraulics
    • Electrical and Hydraulic schematics. Specifically the safety interlock circuits
